Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary is a gem about 2 hours west of Detroit.
The owner David Critchlow first envisioned a reptile park in the mid 80′s, beginning with a
small habitat for small cold-blooded animals indigenous to Michigan as entertainment. In 2001, David’s collection of reptiles and tropical plants has
now transformed into Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary & Zoological Gardens where he rescues alligators and reptiles from all over the state.
In some areas it is actually legal to purchase alligators. Of course they are only a few inches when they are bought, but they will grow anywhere from 7 to 12 or 13 feet!
He tries to create a natural environment similar to those found throughout the world. He also seeks to inspire and
educate people to care for the environment by providing fun and educational experiences that lead to understanding the natural world.
It’s hard to believe it’s only $3.00 to experience all everything the Sanctuary has to offer.
I cannot tell you how much fun we had. Mr. C is incredibly entertaining, and clearly passionate about what he does.
Mr. C will take in those gators, and give them a real home with other gators.
In the spring he takes them all from the greenhouse to the yard where life is set up pretty nicely for those big guys, and girls. We will go out in April to watch their little pilgrimage.
If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping the Sanctuary!
